Hi Mark & thanks for your comment. I agree that recognition is a key consideration when designing a wiki - the really pretty ones may look untouchable whereas the boring wikipedia-like ones just scream wiki!

You should add a comment about your frustration to the Butler wiki. Aside from being interesting, it would give it some content...

Many of the wikis are kind of plain, but I do think that the "wikipedia"-look is good, since most people who are familiar with wikis are familiar with them because of wikipedia. When you see a wikipedia-like page you can quickly figure out how to edit (perform rough edits, that is. It takes a bit more time to figure out how to create links and tables, etc...)

Hi Karen and thanks for pointing me back to one more feature of the Butler WikiRef. I agree that it is a cool idea to set up a wiki page for students to collaborate on group projects - I've used wiki-type software for a few class projects now and I believe the greatly facilitate the group process. But I still had trouble finding this section on the wiki and think that the original wiki owners should take great care in organizing the wiki in order to facilitate access to the pages created later on.

As far as I could tell the Butler WikiRef is a place for students and faculty to review and discuss reference tools. I agree that it doesn't really seem like anyone is contributing to it. I guess it makes you wonder if it answers a real need. However, one feature that I thought was kind of cool was the Class Resources section where students could collaborate for specific group projects.
